The Guruvayur/ Sree Krishna Temple is one of the most important and sacred pilgrim centres of Kerala. Located in the Guruvayoor town of Thrissur district in Kerala ,India it is easily accessible by road and rail. The presiding deity is MahaVishnu, in standing posture with four hands carrying Sankhu(conch), Sudarshana chakram (a serrated disk),lotus and mace. He is worshipped as Balakrishna, the full avatar (Purnaavatara) of Mahavishnu .The idol is made of a rare stone known as Patala Anjana.
Guruvayoor is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of Kerala. Its main attraction is the Sree Krishna Temple, considered the Dwaraka of the South. This historic temple is shrouded in mystery. According to belief, the temple is the creation of Guru, the preceptor of the Gods, and Vayu, God of the winds. The eastern NADA is the main entrance to the shrine. In the Chuttambalam (outer enclosure) is the tall 33.5 m high gold plated Dwajasthambam (flag-post). There is also a 7 metre high Deepasthambam (pillar of lamps), whose thirteen circular receptacles provide a truly gorgeous spectacle when lit. The square Sreekovil is the sacred sanctum sanctorum of the temple, housing the main deity. Within the temple there are also the images of Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa and Edathedathu Kavil Bhagavathy. Renowned for its healing powers, people make an astonishing range of offerings here to the Lord. One of the most popular offerings is the Thulabharam, where devotees are weighed against bananas, sugar, jaggery and coconuts equivalent to their weight. UDAYASTHAMANA POOJA
Now no booking is available for Udayasthamana Pooja.
KRISHNANATTAM
There will be only one performance on a day. There is no performance on Tuesdays and during off season (between June and September). Krishnanattam must be Booked in advance at the advance booking counter. Devotees who book Krishnanattam can watch the performance inside the temple that particular day. Prasadam is not issued to devotees who book krishnanattam. Devotees who wish to book ‘Swargaarohanam’ krishnanattam should book ‘Avatharam’ also.

Offerings at Guruvayur…..
Gajapooja and Aanayoottu
The devaswom is Making the arrangements for the traditional auspicious worshipof elephants is known as Gajapooja. Now there is an offering called Aanayoottu. This is the feeding of lord’s elephants with rice, jaggery, plantain, coconut etc. The charges for this offering per day is Rs. 10000/-. The feeding takes place at3pm at the Devaswom elephant’s sanctury at Punnathur Kotta.
Prasada oottu (Annadaanam)
There are arrangements for free feeding as Prasadam at the dining hall (Annalakshmi Hall located outside the temple) for thousands of pilgrims at 10 am and 7.30 pm. One can make offering of any amount for this free feeding.
Chorunu For Kids (First Feeding of Babies)
This offering will be conducted at Chorun Hall (located at first floor of old Ticket Counter building).Take the ticket for chorun from ticket counter before enetring the chorun Hall.This offerings starts daily at 5am till 1pm and also in the evening.The choroonu for kids will not be conducted on Ekadasi and every Vavu Night. The choroonu will not be conducted on Guruvayur Ekadasi Day (Entire day).
Chuttuvilakku
*Chuttuvilakku booking for the year 2025 has been started and advance amount is 50000/-. Contact devaswom office for more information
Ahassu
It is a combination of prasadams of a day at guruvayur temple, it contains APPAM,ADDA,AVIL,KALABHAM etc.The ticket should be booked in advance. The ticket will be availble through advance booking counter.A pooja slip will be issued on the date of offering.This slip conatins the list of prasadams of Ahassu offerings.The devotee those who booked Ahassu has to spent entire day in guruvayur to collect all the prasadams of Ahassu offering.
Prasada Kit
It is a combination of readly available prasadams at guruvayur temple.The kit contains PLANTAIN,SUGAR, BUTTER,MALAR(Puffed Rice),THIRUMUDI MALA.
Poor Feeding
There are Poor Feeding boxes kept inside the temple. For Poor Feeding devotees are requested to drop offering tickets in to these boxes.
Thulabharam
Offering one’s weight of such materials as water, coconut, butter,sugar, fruits, copper, silver, gold or any other materials isa popular vow taken by devotees. The devaswam will supply most of these materials. There is no advance booking, but for materials such as flowers, etc., which may not be immediately available, the Devaswom should be informed atleast a day in advance, the devotee should bring them. The weighing facilities are on both sides of the entrance. for the non hindus, the thulabharam facility is available near the Kalyana Mandapam. The expenses involved should be remitted after the offering and receipt obtained.There are three thulabhram counters are available in temple and there is no advance booking for thulabharam offerings. The items will be available with devaswom or contractor or devotees can perform with their own items.
